It is necessary to distinguish between the notion of baekdudaegan and that of baekdudaegan mountain trail. Just as a mountain is different from a hiking trail, the baekdudaegan should not be considered the same as the baekdudaegan mountain trail. If one were to understand the baekdudaegan as a line connecting point A to point B, then he/she can not see the true geometry of it. It is just as you can not put the name of a mountain next to the symbol and call that isolated point a mountain. A mountain and pass does not refer to a point. Instead, it starts from the plain and elevates to the peak and passes the hills then descends onthe opposite side. Thus, a pass is a path that transverses the mountain region running horizontal. Also, the word 'ridge line' can mean either a ridge containing a slope or the peak of the ridge line. In order to understand the concept of the baekdudaegan and its geographical limit, one should consider the facts mentioned above. baekdudaegan is a continuous mountain system in a "mountain-pass-mountain-pass" pattern. It runs north to south repeating up hills and down hills and with various widths in east to west direction. In aerial view, baekdudaegan looks like a vast belt made of many areas. Looking at the horizon, it has a big and tall body mass. One must understand baekdudaegan in the concept of a 'ZONE'. If baekdudaegan was a line connecting points, in the case of the Mt. Sul-ak, it would be a ridgeline connecting Mishi-ryung, Hwhangchul-bong, Juhang-ryung, Madeng-ryung, Kongryong-line, Daechung-bong, Gutchug-bong, Hankay-ryung.. According to Shankyungpyo, however, it consists of Mishpah-ryung, Mt. Sul-ak, Ohsack-ryung Therefore, baekdudaegan refers to a holistic mountain system including the whole mountain rather than just the ridges. Occasionally, some people find a few huge peaks of a mountain left out from the baekdudaegan ridgeline and point them out as errors in Shankyungpyo. It is only because they don't understand the geographical structure. A mountain range according to the book does not limit its definition to the peak of the ridgeline. It includes the whole mountain. For example, if a very bottom part of a mountain comes in contact with a watershed, then the watershed is considered to go through the whole mountain. Therefore, a specific mountain ridge does not necessarily coincide with that of the main mountain ridge. In other words, the mountain chain of baekdudaegan acts as a watershed of a big river.

A land mass that projects above its surroundings is a 'mountain'. When this piece of mass continues to the point it divides the directions of waters, itis called a watershed. On the other hand, a 'divide' is a line connecting the highest point on a peak that divides between drainage areas. Therefore, it is an error to view the great mountain chain thesame as a divide. A divide is a part of the great mountain chain. baekdudaegan is a legitimate geographical domain entity. It is a hefty ecological field and a living organism.
