Mt. Odae, listed as a national park on February 1st, 1975, spreads over Yeon-gok-myeon, Gang-neung-si; Jinbu-myeon, Pyeong-chang-gun; and Hongcheon-gun. It is a place for enriched cultural experience for its many cultural assets including 3 items of the National Treasure, 3 items of the Treasure, 1 Historical Site, 4 items of the Local Cultural Assets, 1 item of the Cultural Resouce and 10 temples.
According to the Sam-guk-yu-sa (Historical book), Mt. Odea is the most beautiful mountain in Korea where the Buddism would be prosperous. For this reason, numerous temples were built in this park. It became the biggest Buddhist sacred place in Korea. Furthermore, this lotus flower shaped mountain represents the Mercy of Buddhism.

Cultural Assets and Relics
Woljung-sa : An ancient temple, built in the Shilla dynasty, has many cultural heritages including the 9-floor Octagonal pagoda, the National Treasure No.48; the seated statue of Buddhist Saint Stone , the Treasure No.139, etc.
Sangwon-sa : A temple where Sangwon-sa bronze bell, the National treasure No.37 is located. This ancient bell was created during the reign of King Sung-duk, the Shilla dynasty. It has brought much attention within the artist communities for the engraved Bichonsang. There is also the wooden seated statue of Mun-su-dong-ja, the National treasure No. 221.
Jeongmyeolbogung : A palace located on the ridge of the mountain where Korean regard as the most prosperous place. This is the most famous one among the five great Bo-gungs (palaces with stupa) in Korea that contains a sarira of Seokgamoni Buddha. There are numerous buddhists worshiping Buddha all the year round.

Mt. Odae is very attractive since it has the biggest natural forest in Korea. Mt. Odae is not as fully developed as Mt. Seorak; thus, it does not have the well established tourist facilities. However, it is most suitable for those seek after natural forests and mountains.

One-day hiking to Biro Summit, starts from Sangwon-sa, Bang-a- dari, Jingogae, or Guangwonri in Hongcheon, takes around 7 hours. Family travelers with small children are recommended to hike from Bang-a-dari valley or Sogum river where the access by car is easy to Murung.

*By Bus : Take express buses at the Dongseoul Express Terminal, from Seoul to Sogumgang (Scheduled for twice a day)
*Walljungsa and Sangwonsa area :
Take express buses in Seoul, Gangneung, Chuncheon, Wonju, etc to Jinboo.
*At Jinboo, transfer to Mt. Odae
*From Gangneung, there is a direct bus line to Mt. Odae.
*Sogum River area : From Gangneung, there are local buses frequently.
*From Pyungchang to Jinboo, Whengge, Gangneung : the local buses operate at one-hour interval (taking around 4hours 30 min)
*By car : On Youngdong highway, take a turn at Jinboo Interchange.
